Angel

Angel
Sarah McLachlan

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always some reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh, beautiful release
memories seep from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

in the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
the storm keeps on twisting
keep on building the lies
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe
in this sweet madness
oh, this glorious sadness
that brings me to my knees

in the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

Eyes On The Prize

Giants

On The Shoulders Of Giants - Liars and Thieves

I've been watching the PBS rebroadcast of "Eyes On The Prize" recently, the film history of the American Civil Rights movement. I saw heroes and giants, of all races, fighting for freedom. You see Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, and also the everyday people of Selma, Alabama and rural Mississippi; tired people, no longer willing to wait for promises denied. I saw Catholic nuns and Protestant clergy, marching for justice. I saw young people of all races, taking on the challenge of their day, fearless young people struggling for the freedom of their fellow Americans, for as one civil rights worker said, "As long as one man is not free, then I also am not free, for our destinies are intertwined". It gives you hope for the future, that people like this once existed in this country. It gives you hope that, such people will exist again in our country, because our land is suffering violations and desecrations against who we really are. The people I saw in this film, are who we all, really are, and as they sang over and over again, "We Shall Overcome". We shall listen to, as Abraham Lincoln said, "the better angels of our nature", and as Americans ultimately have always done, we will finally begin to hear their words.

Heart Of Gold

Heart Of Gold
Neil Young

I want to live,
I want to give
I've been a miner
for a heart of gold
It's these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old

I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
for a heart of gold
I've been in my mind,
it's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old

Keep me searching
for a heart of gold
You keep me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
I've been a miner
for a heart of gold
